How to install Chamilo 2 after...

Postby cruckdeschel » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:15 pm

Hello,

Yesterday, I tried installing Chamilo using Superscripts (provided by by Webhost server). It didn't work all day, and I came to find out, when chatting with the service people from Ipage, that they couldn't get it to work either. So today I downloaded the Chamilo 2 zip file to my local computer and then I used FileZilla to upload all of those files to a folder (/chamilo) in my File Directory. Also, I added a database that I called 'chamilo' to MySQL.

Right now, I don't know how to proceed. I was trying to follow the txt file directions, but I don't know how to run the installation from here.

I would very much appreciate help.
Thank you,
Chris

Thank you for your advice...

Unfortunately, this didn't work. I'm thinking it's probably bad that I don't have anything in the database MYSQL that I created for Chamilo. What files need to go in that database and how do I get them there?

I appreciate any help you can give me.
Thank you,
Chris

by going to the /install folder an install wizard should be launched.
It will ask you for the name of the database and a user (+password) that can create tables in that database. It will create all the tables for you, you don't have to do anything manually. the install wizard will also check other things and warn you if you are missing stuff or you have to change permissions on files and stuff.

when you say "this didn't work": what does that mean exactly? did you get an error?

just to be clear:
1) you should create a database and have the user and password for a user that is allowed to create, drop, alter, insert, ... in that database.

2) you should unzip the chamilo files to the server, like in the folder "CHAMILO"

3) then you go to xxx.yoursiteurll.xxx/xxx/CHAMILO/install (all the xxx stuff depends on your account and server and the way it has all been set up).

have you done that?

Hello,

First of all, I appreciate your help very much.

Yes, I did unzip the files in my local computer. Then, I used Filezilla to move them to a folder called /chamilo on my server. I did create a database (which is currently empty) that has a username and password for me. I'm going to go back and retry what you've recommended.

I'll let you know.
Thanks again,
Chris

you should contact the admin because the error you are getting does not give any hint to what the problem might be.

Hello,

Okay, I contacted the Server support, and this is what the person wrote when I provided the error message:

Hello,

I have checked your issue. It seems that issue with the application itself. I suggest you to contact the application vendor for further investigation of the issue. Also, the test script at http://www.myurl.com/chamilo/install/info.php is working fine without any issues.

I checked the info.php and a bunch of information appeared.

What do you think? What should my next step be?

Thank you very much for all of your help.
