Status and Versions of Chamilo: Chamilo 2 and LCMS 3

Postby ralfh » Tue Jul 17, 2012 8:43 pm

Hello

I'm a little bit confused about Chamilo versions and plans. Thats what I found and understood. Can you please confirm or correct:

Chamilo 1.9 is coming in these days.
Chamilo 2 is based on complete new code. Database concept has changed that new courses didn't create new databases. Correct?
Chamilo LCMS 3 can migrate from Chamilo 1.8/1.9 and 2 and will be the base for further developments. Is this correct?

Are there any documents about LCMS 3? Is there a realistic timeline for LCMS 3?
What about translations? Does it make sense to start with 2 or should we wait for LCMS 3? Will you move to Launchpad for translations?

I've got the exact same questions. We've just started an upgrade project to migrate Chamilo 1.8.7 to Chamilo 2.1.

Is it smart to migrate to 2.1? Or could we better wait for a while and upgrade directly to Chamilo 3?

And is it correct that Chamilo LCMS 3 can migrate from Chamilo 1.8/1.9 and 2?

Hi,
I may be wrong, but I share my understanding...
Please consider that 2.x branch is a complete different philosophy, meaning that 1.x is LMS philosophy and 2.x is repository philosophy.

What I would do is to give a try on both and then decide which philosophy is the one I prefer...

I don't have info regarding LMS 3, but one thing can be said, Both 2.x and 1.9 version are based on single database.
1.8.x was based on multiple database.

Maybe someone could give you more info and answer better, but this is the way I understood things.
