Basic Changes (English)

Postby DigitalEthosEdu » Sat Jul 07, 2012 12:00 am

Can you point us in the direction or a place to teach us about basic branding changes and functions.

Currently we trying to figure out how to change the menu tabs, can we create "link" tabs to the portal for external sites, change the name of the tabs like "Training" to "classroom".

We loaded from BlueHost.

Hi,
Pleasde note that the menus are hard coded into PHP files, you therefore have to edit and "recode" the names.
In the meantime, doing this may create unsupported issues.

As an example, you can change the name on the bottom of the page, instead of disp^laying Chamilo 1.8.8.4, you could dispaly My site 1.0, but, you loose the capability of version auto-check.
This could happen in case of interaction between menus and actions (As I never tried, I can't be sure).
You may have to spend time to ensure there is no "bug" generated by changing the menus...
If you are prepared for this, I can spend a bit of time to see where the menus are coded :)

I however found a way with minimum risks, BUT, if you release the version of the platform, you'll have to do the job again!!!

Go to main/lang/<language> and you may find the menus in:
admin.inc.php
trad4all.inc.php
I'm not sure if some menus are note somewhere else...The best is to try with 1 menu and see what happens

Good luck

Customising the look of Chamilo:

If you're just asking about the built in configuration options, you can do a lot as course as course administrator within Chamilo.

If you haven't explored it yet, check the option to relocate some or all of the existing tabs to a navigation panel on the right of the homepage. This can be found in the configuration settings in the "Portal" section under the administration tab. You'll also see an option there to "edit portal homepage". There's an option there to "Edit CMS" which will create a page with whatever content you line (including links) with its own tab at the top of the main workspace (or the tab can just link to any url directly if you choose).

You can also use this "edit portal homepage" configuration option to create your own look of homepage using the online editor, in wysiwyg mode or html mode, including whatever external or internal links you wish. It won't lose the header and login panes etc, but you can select various "stylesheet" using the stylesheets option:

You can effectively do the same on each "course homepage" by hiding the icons from students and extending the course introductory text to include links, images etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

This week, I've began to customize my Chamilo 1.9.0 and it is a bit more easier with more options.

If you want, you can download a beta relase and check it by yourself.

The best is coming 8-)
