Welkom bij Chamilo!

Chamilo is een nieuw project dat radicaal opteert voor een open source beleid. Het wil bijdragen tot de ontwikkeling van het beste platform voor samenwerking en e-leren in de open source wereld. Er wordt een vzw opgericht waarin alle partijen een rol kunnen spelen. Die vzw wordt verantwoordelijk voor het beleid, inclusief het vastleggen en uitbrengen van releases. De naam Chamilo wordt door de vzw voor heel Europa gedeponeerd. Commerciële bedrijven zijn uiteraard welkom in de vzw, maar de beslissingsmacht ligt niet langer in de handen van één bedrijf, of zoals het geval was met Dokeos, zelfs één persoon.
De eerste release van Chamilo, met name Chamilo 1.8.6.2, bouwt logisch verder op de Dokeos releases, maar geeft de gebruiker wel het volledige pakket aan mogelijkheden in tegenstelling tot de free versie van Dokeos. Daarmee geeft Chamilo duidelijk aan dat ze de logische opvolger is van Dokeos. Er wordt intussen volop werk gemaakt van Chamilo 2. Dit volledig nieuwe pakket is gebouwd rond een repository van herbruikbare objecten waarop een aantal toepassingen draaien. Daarbij uiteraard ook een volwaardig LCMS, maar ook o.m. een portfolio. De eerste release van deze versie is gepland voor later dit jaar.
De naam 'Chamilo' is geïnspireerd op de kameleon, een diertje dat vele vormen kan aannemen. Wij hopen dat het Chamilo platform prima aanpasbaar is aan uw verwachtingen en vereisten.

BENELUG kick-off meeting was a big succes!

On 27th of January 2012 the Chamilo User Group for Belgium- The Netherlands - Luxemburg officially started. The new Chamilo2.1 ALDRIN release and its introduction in several organisations was the main item of this kick-off. Chamilo 2.1 is reliable collaboration software for the next generation!

Chamilo Community Day - Registration now open!

The Chamilo Community Day event is now open for registration, and will be held on Thursday, March 8th 2012 from 10h00 - 17h00 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium.

This event is organized to give our community the opportunity to provide us with feedback and suggestions to improve the operation of the Chamilo Association and its software.
We will start this event with the presentation of the Annual Report 2011 where the Board members will give you an overview of all things that happened inside our community during the last year. This will include more information about our users/members, software development progress & projects defined early in 2011.

In the afternoon we will organize 2 discussion groups to talk about several topics and will try to provide the Chamilo Assocation with improvements and suggestions.
The outcome of these discussions will be integrated into several project ideas for 2012. These project proposals will be presented and discussed at the General Assembly 2012 that will be held on Friday, the 9 of March in Brussels.

If you are an active member of the Chamilo community and have a clear view on how to improve the way the Chamilo Association is working right now, don't hesitate and register today! We have a limited capacity of 50 people who can attend this event.
